Could you buy your way to Germany?
Lets say you have 8 very rich players. They have all done a lot of farming, made very wise investments and unlike stopped themselves from making dumb purchases in game. What if they decided to just buy themselves victories in the open weekend?
First off, its an open weekend with anyone having a chance to win. In reality there are only a dozen, maybe two dozen that have a decent chance. So every other guild out there will at some point, realize they are just playing for fun. Thats when a guild steps in and starts offering 80k to the other team to just resign at the start of the match. They could post what they'll do, announce it in advance in random cities and towns in game. All building to their credibility that they will actually pay up after the fight.
So eventually they will fight a top guild that has a chance to win. So what, play a quick match and hope you get lucky or just play a stalling match. The top guilds will most likely take losses since it seems a lot of people will be going for heavy offense builds to maximize thier playing time with as many matches as possible. However the rich guild won't be taking as many losses since they have a plan.
Just a thought. People already buy themselves memberships into top guilds. Why not just buy your guild into being a top guild? Would be terribly expensive. And would take some thought in setting it up, not to mention 8 players willing to risk a lot of gold. But hell, it's easy to get anyways.

There wouldn't be enough gold to pay the other teams at high level.

It's possible, but highly unlikely in my opinion. I'm pretty sure ANet will be monitoring these matches for any irregularities.

At least 2500$ and a free trip to Germany >>> 100000 ectos.
And if that guild always has wins and goes on top of ladder, don't you think everyone and ANet will watch them through observer ?

If you're playing for $100000, I doubt you'd be easily bribed by 80k. Plus, I think you'll find that most of the top guild players are pretty damn rich anyways.

even if you did do that. Why would you want to? you are going to lose the first match in the championship anyway and it would be a waste of money for you guys to travel etc etc. I don't think it would be good idea to pay your way in open event. If it works or not just doesn't make sense to.

You get a free trip to Germany, ANet pays everything ( flight, hotel, travel, meal, etc...) and the 6th guild will have at least 2500$ cash prize

Anything's possible, just depends on what resources you have at hand.
From blackmail to bribe, using friendship as an advantage, stealing, hacking or possibly even with violence.
And of course a wonderful meathod I couldn't resist trying to attempt is buying a keyboard that looks the exact same as ones in they are using for the tournament, plant a keystroke tracer in there, swap the modified keyboard with one their using in the contest, and get everyone's account eventually when you collected the modified keyboards (or even buy them saying you want those as a gift :O).
(Just a account stealing idea, not that I would ever do such thing...) *chuckle*

Oh Yeaven, not again. Every time I try an online game the first day everything's fine, because other players don't realise quite everything they can get away with. Don't you think posting your evil plans online will make people try it? Kindof a rediculous move unless the last thing you want is a fair game. People may use it against you some day, if anyone wastes the gold for this one. This is just like the neopets 365 years hack, thousands of accounts were frozen over that. I was on the board when that first started too.
